I have never been a fan of swimming. I was always scared as a kid, and never wanted to get in the water. My parents put me through so many swimming lessons, and they didn’t help me learn to swim or get over my fears. I used the old water wings and those things weren’t as effective at keeping my chest up which was the part that would case me to panic the most. I don’t put myself in situations that cause me fear now, but I still don’t enjoy swimming that much.
So my 7 yo comes by his fear of water honestly. My friends and I have been trying to get him to over come his fear, but it is very slow progress. We have been spending time in a friend’s pool this summer. The pool is 4 feet tall. He is taller than that. His head is above water, but when his brothers splash a bit he starts freaking out. So he mostly likes to sit in the boat they have in their pool.
When I was given the chance to try out the Puddle Jumper Swimaid from Coleman I thought it would be a great help for him. He was so happy to get it on, and then promptly climbed in the boat and floated around! haha! But once he got brave and got out of the boat, the Puddle Jumper gave him the confidence to lift his legs off the bottom of the pool! That is huge for him.
The Puddle Jumper is designed with Durable PE foam, and fits children from 30 to 50 lbs. Mine is around 45 lbs, and it totally works awesome on him. We both like the fact that it has a chest piece as well as the “water wing” style arm pieces, this help it have way more stability. It gives us confidence in the swim assist, and helps the child have more confidence in swimming. We like the buckle in the back too so they can’t undo it themselves in case you have a daredevil child who isn’t a strong swimmer.
You can purchase this from either Canadian Tire or Stearns Canada.
Another great aspect is that it has a antimicrobial treatment! Because sometimes those things get really nasty, but I have confidence that this will help fight some of those issues given proper care, of course.
The last 2 summers, hubby and I have rented a cottage at Santa’s Village camp grounds. After our first experience we learned a lot. One thing was to get each boy his own sleeping bag even though they were sharing the same bed. We went out and bought the Coleman Youth Sleeping Bags for each boy. Coleman is a brand that I has earned my trust since I was a little girl. We have always had their products. My mom was very frugal with her money but always taught us that Coleman was worth every penny you spent as they lasted so long and could stand up to life.
The Youth Sleeping Bags we had last year were awesome, and kept the boys really warm and all their body parts contained away from brothers. They even came with their own carrying bags so each boy was able to carry their own things in to the cabin, set it up, and take it back out again.
I knew what I was getting when I was going to be sent a llumi-Bug Youth Sleeping Bag. Except for one thing. I didn’t know what the Illumi-Bug part meant.
So basically the Illumi-Bug part is a super cute bug design that is on the bag itself and also on the carrying bag! The design glows in the dark! My 7 year old saw it and said “Mommy is that cute sleeping bag for me?” I assured him it was, and he was so excited he was getting to have the puddle jumper and the Illumi-Bug Sleeping Bag. He says that he is so lucky! LOL
This bag has a temperature rating of -1 to 10 °C. This is great because when we were camping before I was frozen but the boys were nice and cozy warm partly due to the ThermoTech® insulation. It fits kids up to 5 ft. 5 in. tall, which is awesome since my boys are tall for their ages, and this will still fit them for a long time. I have a newly minted 11 year old who is almost as tall as me, and he can still fit in this! It’s hard for him sometimes as he has been oversized his whole life so when he wants to play or fit in things aimed for his current age and he is taller than that, he feels sad or left out. I am 5 ft. 6 in and kept telling the boys that maybe I would take it and snuggle in it instead! LOL
The llumi-Bug Youth Sleeping Bag has something called ComfortSmart™ technology. I wasn’t sure what that meant, I just know these bags are awesome of my boys. But here is what that includes:
– Roll Control™ system keeps your bag straight while rolling it up
– Quick Cord™ technology offers no tie patented closure for easy, one-person packing
– Comfort Cuff™ design surrounds your face with softness when you sleep
– ZipPlow™ zipper provides snag free opening and closing
Another fun feature of this bag is that it has an interior tuck pocket to store small items! Little boys love storing things, especially when camping. You have to put all kinds of special treasures like rocks and sticks in a pocket! How amazing to put it in your sleeping bag with you!! It has a 5 year limited warranty and my favourite part is that it is machine washable. All things that come in contact with a kid should go in some sort of machine to be cleaned!
