Limiting the Post-Holiday Credit Card Bill

It's that time of the year, you know when the credit card bills start arriving from all that holly jolly holiday giving, it's something most of us dread. The holiday season often leads to extravagant spending on gifts for family, treats for ourselves, and so many little extras that can conveniently be swiped onto the credit card.  This is credit card companies favourite time of year.

Many of us use New Year’s Eve to make resolutions for the following year, and one of the most common of those resolutions is to be more conservative with spending habits.  Many of us have at least one credit card, usually more – and the interest rates can drive the costs of items up significantly.  Negotiating with banks and other creditors for more affordable rates is often like pulling teeth – long, painful, and with very little reward.

Did you know there are now sites that help us find the lowest credit card rates without having to deal directly with the bank or the big companies like Visa or MasterCard?  These sites find the best advertised rates from all the major credit card providers in our areas to act as a one stop comparison site.  The service works similar to the way Travelocity compares travel rates so we can fly at discount prices – a service now used to save time and money on our credit cards.

One of the major benefits of this type of credit card shopping is that it puts us in control.  For so long creditors dictate what they believe is the credit card rate we should pay under their terms, but the leverage becomes ours with information on all other competitors.  If a provider is unwilling to negotiate on its rates, we can feel comfortable walking away knowing that another provider has a better option – knowledge is power after all.

The January credit card bill no longer has to be frightening so long as affordable credit card rates reduce the amount we owe in trying to pay the bill off.  Shop online, save for a long time!
