I love reading, but book marks seem to be my nemesis. Either the boys pull them out, or I set them somewhere and lose them, or I put them in the book somewhere, and they fall out! So I usually just end up with some random piece of paper that is close at hand.
For Christmas hubby and I fill each others stockings, and always try to find something neat they other wouldn't expect. This year, one of the items in my stocking was these magnetic bookmarks. Sometimes the unique items I don't fully enjoy until I start trying to use it. But this I knew was going to be a genius idea from the moment I saw it.
It clips to the page you are on, and the little pointed end shows the page you are one. Hubby even suggested running it along the side of the page, and it will point at what paragraph you left off on. I usually just leave it at the top, but that's a good idea too!
The boys don't see something sticking out of my book so they don't pull on it, and the cats don't see a dangly yarn piece that looks like fun to pull on or eat. When I pick up my book, the book park doesn't fall out because it's magnetic and stuck on there. But it comes off super easy for me, and I just leave it on the page I was on until I am finished reading.
My husband found these at Lee Valley Tools, and after doing some looking into the company, they are sold exclusively at Lee Valley Tools. But I highly recommend these if you have any of the same problems as me, and like reading hard copy books, instead of on e-reader version.

funny thing, we just started getting the Lee Valley Tools catalog as hubby bought a tool from there. The sell so many different things!
