Little Passports A Global Adventure Review

I am always looking for fun, educational items for my boys, especially my oldest who started school this year.  I want to introduce concepts that he will learn at school ahead of time if possible.

When I found Little Passports, I thought it was a very cool idea.

Little Passports is your child's ticket to an exciting global adventure. Inspire a love and understanding of the world as your child learns about a country's geography, history, culture, and language in a fun and memorable way.

Your child will love receiving their own mail every month.

Every month, the characters Sofia and Sam travel to a different country and send your child an exciting package including:
•A letter from Sam and Sofia describing their in-country adventures
•Fun and unique souvenirs and gifts that bring each country to life
•A secret code to access our online Boarding Zone full of games & activities

First Month's Explorer Kit

In the first month, the adventure starts with an Explorer Kit that includes:
•Fun travel suitcase with an introductory letter from Sofia and Sam
•World wall map
•Travel passport
•Fun stickers
•Activity sheet
•Access to online games and activities with our boarding pass

The Adventure Continues

In each following month, your child will receive a package from Sam and Sofia as they travel to a new country. Each adventure package includes a letter addressed to your child from Sam and Sofia, fun souvenirs, an activity sheet, a photo from the country, a passport stamp, a map marker, a suitcase sticker, and a collectible boarding pass to access more online games and activities.

Little Passports souvenirs are fun, memorable and educational. Examples items include: music CDs, traditional country toys, arts and crafts projects, puzzles, pencils/erasers, photos, stickers, and postcards.

The recommended age range for Little Passports is 5 to 10 years old.

We were given the first month's Explorer kit.  My son is going on 5, and although he doesn't get all the info totally, he is so excited about his suitcase, and map.  We have been using the passport for places we go.  We don't travel far, but we are going to try to do a stamp, or sticker or something from every place we take him.  We got a pawprint sticker from Great Wolf and I put it in his passport!  He was soooooo excited.

We are loving showing him the countries of the world, on the map, and he can recognize the name Canada, as he was taught that at school.

You can be their fan on Facebook, and follow them on Twitter.

Plum Organics Fun Kid Photos!

Plum Organics Contest

"Thanks to Plum Organics for sponsoring my post about fun kid photos and the stories behind them. Enter Plum's "Babies for Yum Caption Contest" on Facebook and you could win a $100 gift card or Plum goodies."

For this promotion, I was asked to share a picture of my kids, and tell a funny story about it, to help get the word out about the Facebook contest.  Well I know for me, I have a ton of funny pics of my boys, because my theory has always been take a pic, then ask questions after.

So when I was given this opportunity, it was hard to choose just one picture to share.  But I have one.  So a little story behind it, then I will share the picture:

We have a lot of toys in our house, we have 3 boys all between 1-4 years of age, so they all pretty much can share the same toys.  But if you have kids at all, you know that half the time they will not play with all of their toys, and find regular objects to use as fun.

My older son has not always been good at that, he tends to use objects for what they were meant for.  Like a toy vacuum he uses to vacuum, but will run around all crazy with it.  Shoes, he will take our shoes and wear them as shoes and tromp around.  Since his 3yo brother started getting older, he started using objects in crazy ways, and it cracks up the 4yo.  Now they both do that.  It's been good for my 4yo to learn to be flexible, and see objects in different ways.

So lately the "toys" of choice have been our shoes, and boots.  They put them on and run around the house, they take the baby shoes and put them on their "loveys".  They will take bigger boots, and put their loveys in them and make them "run" around the house in them.  Well one day I was taking pics of some of my review items, when my 3yo came up to me like this:

I promptly turned the camera on him, and than I asked "What's up?"  Here is the conversation we had:
Him: Mommy, this hat is too heavy for my head
Me: well maybe it would make a better boot?
Wesley: No Mommy.  That's silly!!!

That's when he started laughing at me, like it was the most ridiculous idea he had ever heard!   He is my real character though.  He oozes personality, and totally has his own ideas, and he will fight you tooth and nail just to disagree with you LOL!

I was selected for this sponsorship by the Clever Girls Collective, which endorses Blog With Integrity, as I do.

Green Beaver Review and Giveaway

As a mom, I hate using a lot of products on my boys because a lot of them are laden with chemicals.  But when it comes to sunscreen, what can you do?  Which is worse, the chemicals or the sun?

I always get the sunscreens made for kids, as I figure they are less chemical laden, and safer for kids, but maybe I am just believing the marketing?  It's so hard to know what is the right answer.

I was thrilled when I came across the Green beaver sunscreen for kids.  It is:
Organic Certified, Health Canada approved

Non-whitening, Waterproof, Fragrance-free
Non-nano, non-silicone coated
Spreads evenly and quickly

I found it to be surprisingly thick.  It is not a bad thing, it makes it quite easy to smooth over a wiggly 4 yr old boy.  I am just used to the more runny ones that end up dripping on the floor, and then I either have to stop and wipe it up, or wipe it up from all over the house a few minutes later.

My 4yo who is very sensitive and doesn't like anything on him (eg he freaks out if he gets dirt on him), was not impressed.  He sat there for a few minutes with his arms out and in tears!  LOL
My 3yo wasn't needing any because it was for the 4yos school play day, but he made me put some on him.  I put a little on to humour him, and he didn't mind at all.  If you have a child who really hates having anything on them at all, this might cause a little upset,  but other than that I think it is a great product.

It doesn't have any scent to it at all, which I really like.  I am allergic to perfume/fragrances, so usually I will break out in a rash from where the sunscreen touches me, or I get a migraine from the scent.

Also in case you couldn't tell, this is a Canadian company!  I love supporting great Canadian companies.

They have all kinds of other awesome products too: hair care products, body products, a kids line, lip balms, etc, etc.  All Canadian, and all organic and natural!

BUY IT: Go to Green Beaver, and pick out some items for yourself and family.

Snazzy Crochet Designs

Ok this isn't really a review, but I won a crocheted hat from Snazzy Crochet Designs Facebook Page, previously.

She made it specifically for my son, dropped it in the mail, and the lock out happened!  So it look a little while to get here, but if you take out the lock out time, it got here in about 2 days from when she mailed it.

Here is the hat, it's a penguin hat, and he loves it!

It fits great, with a little room for growth (since he won't need it until the winter).  It is well made, and super cute!

Our Great Adventure to the Lodge

This past weekend our family went to Great Wolf Lodge, Niagara Falls.  I did not get a free trip or anything, we just knew a group of friends who were going and got a group rate, so we decided to go too.

In case you have no idea what I am talking about, or what it is like, I will tell you.  Great Wolf Lodge is a hotel and water park resort.  They have a lot of other amenities on site, so really you don't have to leave the resort at all once you get there.

Check in time is 4pm, but you can come as early as 1 pm on the day of check in, and use the facilities, you just won't have access to your room until closer to 4.  I know for us, they called us on our cell and it was a bit before 4pm.  Also the day of check out, you must check out my 11 am or you can purchase extended check out and stay until 1 pm.  However, you don't have to leave the facilities, you can stay until the water park closes on day of check out.  The waterpark is only available to hotel guests so you don't have to worry about all of Niagara Falls being there that day.

If you have never been to Niagara Falls, you might want to go early or stay late and check out the area, or take a couple of days at Great Wolf, and leave the resort for a 1/2 day or a day.  We grew up there and have family there so we stayed on the resort until after check out time, and then visited family.

Here are some of the non-waterpark activities:
Scooops® Kid Spa - this is great if you have little girls.....it was very pink and girly, we walked past. LOL

Cub Club® - they have all kinds of fun activities for kids you can pay extra for.  They even have a PJ Party where no parents are allowed.  My boys are too young for this, but I think when they are older, this would be a great thing to do. 2 1/2 hours of free time for parents seems glorious!

Northern Lights™ Arcade - My son calls this "Chuck E Cheese" LOL, it is very similar to that concept, just no restaurant in side.

Wacky Wilderness Mini Golf™ - Mini Golf with fun surprises.

Honestly we didn't do any of these things LOL, but they all looked fun, and I think next time we will do more.  We did go to the Nightly Story time and my boys had a blast.  They also do a daily nature walk in the ams, but this place totally zonked my boys, and the early bird got up at 7:30 (the rest slept until 8:30) and we missed it!

Their water park is huge, and there is tons to do!  The major problem I had was that other than standing in the wading pool there was nothing for the baby to do.  So I had to stand there with him.  They do have a babysitting service, which we didn't take advantage of, but probably would in the future, for at least an hour or two.  They had some very kiddie slides, which my older boys loved.  I thought they should let parents of kids 2 and under on the slides holding the baby, so that the baby could have a little fun.  But alas, they do not.

At first the 15 month old, and the 3yo were both terrified.  The 3yo snapped out of it once we got one of the resort provided life jackets on him.  Then I kept losing track of him as he would run off to the slides.  He also loved just floating by, which amused all the parents in the wading pool.  He would float past them with a huge goofy grin on.

It wasn't until the 2nd day, about 1 1/2 hours in that the baby finally warmed up to this idea, and then he had a lot of fun playing in the water.  Although there wasn't a lot for him to do.  We did go on the lazy river as a family, and he clung to me.  That was during his "I hate this whole tortourous event" phase.  He loved just laying on me and floating along.  There lazy river isn't too lazy though, it moves quite rapidly.

Since we have come home, my 4yo has said every day that we will be going to Great Wolf Large tomorrow, and going to room 3 0 2 0 to stay.  LOL He had so much fun.  We need to go back again, and think it will be more of a winter type event next time.

Baby's First Haircut

My poor baby needed a haircut really bad.  I think part of it was I put it off for a while because I really didn't want to hit that milestone.  I know that sounds weird, it's just a haircut, right?  But I find afterwards, they no longer look like a little baby, and I am not going to have a little baby ever again.  I love the baby stage, it really is my fav.

A week ago, we finally decided we needed to go get it done.  I wanted to get it done at Melonheads as they really do up a first haircut nice.  However, my 4yo woke up from his nap with 103 fever, and we didn't get to go get it done.  It became apparent that we weren't ever going to get it done if I didn't just cut it myself.  I really wanted it to be done before the graduation today, so he looked good when the 4yo showed him off at school.  Also, since we will be playing in tons of water at the Great Wolf Lodge this weekend, I didn't want it all tangled with chlorine and such.

I previously took a course in hairdressing, and realized I don't love cutting hair as much as I thought I did.  It wasn't a waste as I discovered my true passion for work, and also now I have a skill that will serve me well in life with 3 boys!  I have saved tons of money on haircuts, but cutting the boys hair myself.

So here are some before shots:

I decided I either needed to cut his hair, or put it in pigtails, and get him a dress LOL!

Here are the after shots:

I think it looks much better!

Joy of Chex Blog Tour

Do you have any food allergies?  I do.  I am allergic to Pineapple, and it sucks!  I grew into my allergy, so I know how hard it can be to develop an intolerance/allergy to a food you love.  That's why I wanted to be a part of the Joy of Chex Blog Tour.

Have you heard about Gluten intolerances?  Many people I know have them.  They basically can't eat wheat, or other items with Gluten in them without going through a whole host of problems.  Gluten intolerances aren’t always something you’re born with. After many years of not giving much thought about what they consume, they are now changing their lifestyles and diets. Reading ingredient labels has become more important to them, and they aren’t alone - 14% of all Canadians are gluten avoiders!

From my experiences being around people with Gluten intolerances, finding things to eat can be difficult. We have friends we use to have over all the time, and I would always make chicken with baked potatoes and corn, as I didn't know what else to make for him.  I felt bad that I wouldn't know what else to make, but his wife always assured me, she didn't have many more options either.  One of my bosses had the same problem when we would all eat together, she would bring her own lunch instead of eating what the rest of us did, although she usually would chip in anyways.
The arrival of Chex is an answer not only for gluten avoiders but also for their families. It's a great tasting cereal your whole family will love and it also happens to be gluten free. It's the best of both worlds! Chex now offers two scrumptious varieties, Honey Nut and Rice, in grocery stores across Canada.
We were given both to try of the new Gluten Free Chex.  I am a huge Chex fan anyways, as I really really really hate cereal that goes soggy fast. Chex has always been great at holding up against the milk to the end of the bowl.  I know that I have sugar free products I eat because of sugar intolerances, and most of the time the products taste really gross in sugar free, so I was a little concerned the products would taste funky without the gluten.  However, not the case!  They were delish!  We all love the Honey Nut Chex.  The boys weren't as excited about the rice flavour, but I found it tasty.  We are big cereal people and can be found eating it all during the day.  I found these were great for the boys to eat dry as a tasty snack too.

I did however make one of the recipes that we were give to try in a recipe book.  You can find gluten free recipes at: http://www.chexcanada.com/.

The one we tried is called Chex Muddy Buddies.  This recipe makes a great party snack, treat, or I would think an awesome campfire snack for the summer nights!  It was super easy to make, and sooooooo delicious, and oh so yummy!

I now blame Chex, and MomCentral Canada for the overload of sugar I am going to have from eating too much of these!

The boys were all over these, and the chocolate to cereal ratio is pretty much in favour of the cereal so I don't feel too guilty giving them these.
My awesome blogging buddy GingerMommy reviewed these too and I would love for you to check out her review at: http://www.talesofarantingginger.com/2011/06/chex-gluten-free-cereal.html

Disclosure: I am participating in the Chex Gluten Free program by Mom Central Canada on behalf of General Mills. I received a Chex gift pack and a gift card as a thank you for my participation. The opinions on this blog are my own.

Home Based Business Start Up Ebook

I have been trying to find ways to earn money from home, and was never interested in a home-based business.  I always wanted to work for someone else.  Then I realized I had tons of crafts I was making, and they were just piling up, and started earning a small income from my blog.  That's when I realized I was falling into my own homebased business.  There are a lot of things to consider when you are starting a home business, or when you are thinking about starting one.

I recently saw on Tomoson.com an opportunity to review an ebook called "Home Based Business Start Up".  Seeing as I sort of fell into mine, I already had some of these things going, but I feel like it is a great idea for someone already started (to make sure you are on the right track or get there).  Also I felt like it would be a great e-book for my readers as if you are a blogger, you have the potential to be a home based business.  I also have a lot of etsy owner readers.

The Home Based Business Start Up Ebook is an annotated workbook with Excel spreadsheets to help new entrepreneurs (or experienced ones) get a stronger footing in the business world. This is a workbook, not a book of lectures, taking the new home based entrepreneur through the steps of choosing a business, planning for it, the legalities of it, through promotion and setting up the initial business plan. Some of the info is more US related, but the basic concepts are good, and gives you items to think about and things you should check into for Canadian laws.

Most bloggers have a home business of some sort, so this ebook is not limited by category. It is as appropriate for women's sites as for purely business sites.
Some of the topics that I found most interesting were:

•Worksheet: Have I Got The Stuff? - a point system to know whether you have the "stuff" to succeed or not, although she points out even if you don't have high points doesn't mean you will fail, just means you have to work harder.  Also surround yourself with people who have the skills you are lacking.

•101 Top Home Businesses - this is great if you don't know what you want to do other than start a home business

•Summarize Start up Costs - awesome list of things you might not think of

•Your Cash Flow Summary - A great tool to show how to work cash flow

•Questions To Ask Your Accountant - This is an awesome list of questions to use to find a good accountant, which you will need for a business.

•Calling On Your Team Members - realizing all the people you have on your side.

•Checklist: Pondering What To Do - tos of great checklists in this book and worksheets!

These are just a few of my favourite topics covered in the 105 page book!  It has lots of things for you to work on, and lots of great idea, and brainstorming. It helps you set up a really indepth business plan.

I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com created by WebBizIdeas.com. ToiletTree Fogless Mirror Review

Fogless Shower Mirror with Squeegee by ToiletTree Products. Guaranteed Not to Fog, Designed Not to Fall. When I was younger and living at home, my Dad always use to love shaving in the shower, as he found it really worked best to get a nice close shave.  However, his mirror was constantly fogging up, making it hard to shave, and also a pain to have to keep wiping it.  So when I came across the Toilet Tree Fogless Mirror, I thought of him right away.

Look your best by taking care of your face in your shower. This patent pending mirror is guaranteed not to fog in the shower. Other fogless shower mirrors just don't work. No more suction cups falling off the wall! Our removable, soft silicone adhesive secures the mirror to all shower surfaces and will not damage tiles or shower walls! The mirror conveniently detaches from the bracket so you can easily fill the reservoir before each use. An included self-stored squeegee removes any excess water from the front of your mirror. An adjustable frame makes the mirror accommodating for multiple users and angles. Dermatologists recommend performing daily skin care regimen in the shower as this promotes healthier looking skin. The combination of heat and moisture open the pores and creates an ideal environment for shaving, exfoliating, tweezing and cleaning.

•Patent Pending water chamber design keeps mirror fogless.
•GUARANTEED to be fogless for life. Requires no annoying fog free sprays EVER!
•Easy mounting with removable silicone adhesive. No more unreliable suction cups!
•Built in squeegee to clean off mirror.
•Convenient shelf to place your razor, sponge or tweezers so they are always accessible.
•No more cleaning up messy, hair-filled sinks.
•Designed not to rust, discolor or damage bathroom surfaces.
•Measures 6.5in x 8.5in x 1.5in and weighs less than 1 pound

The thing is I was sceptical.  I have heard of these before, and seriously, they never work!  This one does...trust me, I tried it LOL!  I took several really hot showers with it in there, and no fog!  It was easy to fill, and no trouble at all.

I would recommend this, if you know someone who like to shave in the shower, or tweezes!  Great Product.

Suraiya's Creations Review and Giveaway

Decorative Pillows
One of my favourite places to go each week is our Mommy and Me group that is held at ur church.  Anyone from the community can come, as long as they are a Mom and bring their kids (we do have a few dad's that come too).  I have met some awesome people from there, and have found some great Mom-Owned Businesses to support. One of the awesome ladies I met was the owner and very talented artisan behind Suraiya's Creations!

We decided to work together on a review, and giveaway!  She does custom items, but I wanted to leave it open for her to create, because I know sometimes when someone says I can make whatever you want...that is a lot of choices!  LOL Then you aren't sure what you want, and aren't sure if you can just leave them to do something for you!

So I said I wanted to try one of her custom pillows, and she could make the design.  She asked some of his favourite things, and since he is only 15 months, it's a little limited.  But I said he loves Mickey Mouse, Trains, Trucks, Vehicles of every kind really LOL.  So here is what she came up with:

Isn't it super cute?  She did an amazing job!  This is a pillow covering and a nice firm pillow underneath.  It is white, but you can take it off and wash it.  Obviously you don't want to do that a lot as it will not be good for it but in a house full of kids, it is a good idea to have everything as washable as possible.  Even decorative pillows!

But what did he think of it??

I think he likes it!

I love her products, she is very talented, and I found them to be top quality.  Plus as a Mom herself she thinks of things like making them washable, and she knows what kids will like in her designs.  She offers a wide variety of products, and they can be customized.

Some of her products are: Decorative pillows: either customized with names, characters/designs, or just regular decor pillows; Family Gift Basket (sachets with everyone's names embroidered on them); Reversible Tote Bags, and also pin cushions!  She is just really getting started, so keep checking back as she is updating her shop regularly with new products.  If you have something you would like, be sure to convo her, or ask on Facebook.

Mom Central Canada

Have you heard of Mom Central Canada

They have a Mom program, and also a blogger program.  I have worked with them for both!

The Mom program, you get sent some great items to try for your family.  You don't have to have a blog, just try the product, and fill out a survey they will send you later.

The Blogger program I love!  They email out the opportunity and you choose if you think this would be a good project for you and your family.  You then fill out the form, and apply.  They are really great at offering tons of opportunities, and also making sure they spread out the opportunities.  What I really love about working with them is, they give me the product, all the requirements, usually a gift card to pay me for my work, and they expect an honest review.  They also do a lot of giveaways for all of my readers too.  Also, I get to work with Pam, and she is so sweet, and a pleasure to work with!

If you haven't signed up to work with them yet, I highly recommend it.  And no I get nothing for telling you about them, just less opportunities, because you all are going to sign up! hahahaha!
