PlayfulThreads Review and Giveaway

Recently I was contacted by Playful Threads about doing a review and giveaway!

I was a little concerned that their product line might not fit with my G-rated personality, and blog.  I am a firm believer in being true to who I am and making sure that if you open my blog you won't be embarrassed if your kids walk up!  When I checked out their site, I realized they have a lot of things that are perfectly fine for the kiddies to see, and I would be comfortable showing them to you!  I can't wait for you to see some of their awesome things!

I would like to warn you that if you are checking out their site, maybe make sure the kiddies aren't around as there are some fun playful adult things, and hubby and I were clicking links and glad the kiddies weren't there LOL!  It is an adult orientated site.  My site will not have any of those pics, but some links so you can find it if you want, plus there is a whole lot more.

Here's what they sell:
sexy lingerie, clubwear, plus-size lingerie, sexy dresses, dancewear, leg wear, pasties, thongs, jewelry, g-strings

I love that they have Plus-Size Lingerie, although I am not plus-size myself, a lot of my friends and family are.  It can be tricky trying to get something (or for them to find something) cute and sexy in lingerie.  I remember searching and searching before for my cousins lingerie bridal shower!  She ended up with lots of duplicates as there weren't many choices around.

They have swimwear, anything from G - R rated.  They also have regular undies for those of you that like more seat coverage!  And they have boy shorts too, cute ones!

I was quite impressed with the variety of selection.  Every women needs to feel sexy, and sometimes as Mom's we just don't.  I think that sometimes we have to buy a little sexy number for ourselves so we can feel sexy.

They have costumes too, some that are more for halloween, and some that you shouldn't leave the house in, either!  LOL I loved this one:

I thought it was cute, if you are comfortable showing cleveage, if not, you could easily put a tiny tank underneath and still have a sexy more modest costume!

I had a very hard time picking something!  I went with one of their party dresses,  mostly b/c this posts to my facebook personal page, and there are people on there I don't want knowing things about me HAHAHA:

I thought it was super cute, and priced to sell!  $29.94!

There are many things on this site that are under $30, and are much cheaper than a lot of places I have looked for these items!  When I saw the prices, I must admit that when I saw the prices, I kind of thought the quality would be "cheap" too.

Honestly, I have to saw I was so surprised at the feel and quality of the dress.  I don't have pics of me wearing it, b/c when I put it on I realized it showed off my belly a lot!  I need to get a belt (it doesn't come with the one that is in the picture), or spanx in order to wear this dress.  I even think a super cute tight fitting suit coat would look awesome over top.  I don't do a lot of club hopping LOL, but I thought it would be cute anyways.
BUY IT: Go to PlayfulThreads and pick up a little something for yourself (or for your hubby to admire ;) )!  Just for being one of my wonderful readers you get a code for Free Shipping!!: FREETK

Featured Blogger: Melting Pot - And Giveaway Link

Today our Featured Blogger is Denise from the Melting Pot!  She is running a giveaway on her blog and wanted to tell us about it!:

Did you know that Child Passenger Safety Week is September 19-25th? It drives me insane when I see children sitting in the front seat of a car instead of safely buckled in a car seat, either a 5-point harness or a booster seat. But when using a booster seat there is still the possibility of injury during an accident. I used to think a seat belt was enough to keep my child from being tossed around and injured during a car accident or the occasional defensive driving.

There is a solution to the minimal amount of safety provided by seat belt slack. It is called The SeatSnug and I’ve been testing it out for about 2 weeks now. I love it!

The SeatSnug installed easily in minutes and the instructions were very clear to me. They even have a video on their website if you find that easier.

Although booster seat manufacturers don’t recommend using accessories with their booster seats, SeatSnug is not a booster seat accessory. According to SeatSnug, “It is a seat belt adapter that has been crash tested under government seat belt standards. SeatSnug is, in essence, a significantly improved “locking clip.”

The SeatSnug does not alter the booster seat itself. It allows the lap belt to be lightly tightened over a child’s upper thighs and hips without affecting normal operation of the shoulder strap. Once tightened, SeatSnug will not allow slack or looseness to develop across the lap. I have noticed the difference in the tightness of the lapbelt and the improved stability with the booster seat itself. The comfort of free upper body movement is retained.

At first, Bruce had a hard time getting the seat belt buckles with the SeatSnug installed. But in the last few days he has learned how to do it himself with little to no problem. I haven’t had any problems buckling up though. It is just a little awkward to hold with tiny child-sized hands. Which might be a good thing for someone with a child who likes to unbuckle themselves.

The one thing I would like to see improved is the on/off switch. I have a hard time remembering which position is on and which is off since it isn’t labeled. I’ve provided the SeatSnug folks with that feedback and I’m hoping they find a way to implement that suggestion.

SeatSnug stands behind their product fully. They have a money back guarantee, a 1 year warranty, a full return policy if the SeatSnug doesn’t fit with your seatbelt properly, and if the SeatSnug is in use during an accident they will replace it at no cost (love this!).

All in all I feel much better with the SeatSnug in place and I do feel my child is safer in his booster seat. I no longer have to worry about his seat tipping over or sliding around the back seat. The SeatSnug holds the seat in place by restricting the seat belt from moving freely. The SeatSnug is only recommended for booster seats, not the infant or toddler car seats.

If you want to enter the giveaway (which I already have LOL) Check it out here: http://letsshop2gether.wordpress.com/2010/09/12/seatsnug-review-and-giveaway/  Oh and as a bonus if you enter her giveaway you can get a bonus entry into my current giveaways as long as hers is running.  Just comment that you entered her giveaway!

WeUseCoupons

I have to tell you about this awesome site I have discovered:

Say you have a coupon for pizza or cookie mix but you’re watching your weight. Simply trade it for Healthy Choice or low fat popcorn! No one likes to let coupons expire! So why let coupons go to waste, when you could trade them for ones you really need?

WeUseCoupons.com has an entire section of their site devoted to trading coupons! It’s simple and easy to join (plus it’s FREE)! They have something called Traders World which is where all the coupon trading happens!

There are some helpful hints for when you trade coupons on WUC:

Craft it Forward

Melissa from at Sweet Beans Of Life is participating in a Pay it Forward! Pay it forward is a neat way to share our crafts. What happens is Melissa posts this on her blog and asks that people e-mail her saying they want to partake. The first 3 people who respond get a craft of Melissa's choice sent to them. However, those 3 people must also post this on their blog and follow suit! You send crafts out and you get a craft yourself!

You have a year to pay it forward to 3 more people. You can make it as simple or as complex as you wish...it's your craft. Just remember that you probably wouldn't want to receive a paper wrapped pencil as your gift lol. If your lucky enough the people you send your craft to will post it on their blog and share what your craftiness is! If you have an etsy store this is great advertisement for your products as well!

So...would you like to be in a Pay It Forward? First 3 people to comment will get a craft from me, and I promise it won't take a year for me to get them to you! BUT if you comment that you want to take part, that means you must post this on your blog and do the same!

Enjoy!

September 10, 2010

This week, I posted about a new blog hop called My 5 Things, and I take to do lists very seriously, so I have been diligently working on my 5 things.

I have 1 finished, and need to work on the other things now.

1. Finish Blue Hat
2. Post More items in Etsy Shop
3. Make a Dress
4. Clean upstairs hallway
5. Start organizing the storage room

The storage room is actually worse LOL, but that's because we did the boys toys first, and now I can really tackle all that's in there!

Ok so for the September blogging challenge I have missed 2 days so far, not so great, but I am working on it!  Trying to schedule some ahead of time!

As for the Stash challenge, so far so good! I am working on clearing out my stash, and trying to get some things completed!  I have a lot of 1/2 done projects and this is really getting me going on getting them done!

First School Visit

Yesterday, Jack and I went to school for the first time.  It was just to meet the teacher, and check out the room.

Well we met someone from our church that is in his class, so that's great, he will have someone familiar in his class.  The only problem is he had so much fun checking out the class, that when it was our turn to go talk to the teacher he wasn't quite ready.  He started to have a tantrum, and now the teacher thinks he might have a behavioural issue :P

But it was only a 1/2 hour and I am sure he thought he would get to stay longer, so he wasn't ready to go.

The next time is the full time, and on his own, so I am sure he will be on his best behaviour and the teacher will see he really is a good kid. LOL!

I did ok, but we will see how I do next Tuesday!

Back to School Blog Tour Starts Today!

I am participating in the Back to School Blog Tour hosted by Living My MoMent and The Work at Home Woman! It will be a week of networking and fun and a great opportunity to promote your blog or business and win prizes!  The tour is running this week: Sept. 6th-10th!

I want to welcome all the Blog Tour people!  Please check out my blog, and if you like it I would welcome you to be a follower!

I have joined in a "September Blogging Challenge" where I am going to be blogging at least 1 post a day for the month!  Let me tell you a little about me:

I am a mother of 3 young boys, and my oldest has a speech delay.  He will be starting school tomorrow for the first time.  Although we only have to go for a 1/2 hour the first time!

My middle one is 2, and he is quite the little character, and then there is our baby.  He is always smiling and happy!

I love to knit, and sew and am working on opening my own etsy shop because my life isn't nearly busy enough LOL!

I am glad you stopped by!

Featured Blogger: Food Floozie

This week our featured blogger of the week is one of my Blogger Connection group: Food Floozie!  I so enjoy reading her writing, it is just plain fun!  I love reading it and her personality just leaps off the screen at you.  I also have a soft spot for Admin Assistants because that was me before I became a SAHM, and I loved it.

I hope you enjoy reading about her as much as I did!

Don't forget that if you would like to be featured as well, please email me! (You can use my handy envelope button!)

1. Tell me a little about yourself.
I'm the food-obsessed mother of a 19-year-old son, Jeremy, who finds himself making occasional appearances in the stories I tell on my blog. My boyfriend, Tom, finds himself in the same predicament … lucky for me, they're both good sports! (They also encourage, rather than cringing at, my endless need to photograph my food for my readers.) I love the Sunday New York Times crossword puzzle, baseball, old movie musicals, studying foreign languages, long walks, and playing Mah Jong with my "bubbes" (elderly "grandmothers" who've essentially adopted me), and other pastimes I don't seem to have much opportunity to pursue anymore now that I spend my life in cyberspace writing for "Food Floozie." I'm a prissy city-girl (Jeremy says I'm "a Fancy Feast cat!"), born and raised in New York City but a Michigan resident for 32 years now, who wears odd colors of nail polish and whose favorite color is pink. I like to think I have a strong sense of whimsy! Have I missed anything …?

2. How long have you been blogging?
I'd entertained the notion of starting a blog -- a.k.a.: a platform for pontificating -- for quite awhile; but I only started "Food Floozie" in March.

3. What is your favorite thing about blogging?
I love to share recipes and food with people. So one of my favorite things about blogging is simply having the opportunity to do this with my followers and with anyone else who stumbles upon my blog at any given time. But this then leads to another favorite aspect, which is the friendships I've made through this venue. People bond over food, whether at a buffet table or in a blog post! Truly, if I lived closer to some of the folks I've met through blogging, I wouldn't have time to work because I'd be meeting for coffee and chitchatting all day long. I've encountered some really wonderful people … J

4. What is your main line of work currently? (e.g.: SAHM, Accountant, etc.)
I'm a Rabbis' Administrative Assistant.

5. Do you have any blogging pet peeves?
I've got a LOT of pet peeves, but not necessarily about blogging! I guess one is that I'd rather read people's stories and get to know them, rather than learning about where to find a deal on diapers. I respond more to the personal posts than I do to giveaways and to coupons. And if there's going to be a gift for readers, having to light myself on fire while jumping out of an airplane and filming it for You Tube is a bit excessive; I know giveaways are about promotion, but some of the hoops that need to be jumped through for extra chances are often just too much.

6. Do you have any giveaways? If so, what's the most exciting one you have going right now?
I sponsored a giveaway when I reached 180 followers (because the number 18 represents "life" in Judaism, so having 10x "life" seemed a worthy time to do it): a beautiful little glass tray that went to my cyberfriend Robin of Your Daily Dose. It was an effort to show gratitude to my followers/readers, rather than turning myself into Lady Gaga and becoming a fame monster.

7. What led you to name your blog the name you gave it?
The name "Food Floozie" had been rattling around in my brain for awhile … I’m not sure if someone had referred to me as that once, or if I'd heard mention of a floozie and put the two together (since I'm easily seduced, but only by food!), or what. But it just sounded right, with that alliteration.

8. What are all the ways my readers can find you?
foodfloozie.blogspot.com
@foodfloozie on Twitter
Facebook.com/FoodFloozie
AnnArbor.com (I usually post on Tuesdays in the "Food & Drink" section)
yentamary@gmail.com
Ummmm … I think that's it!

Kids and Housework

Day 3 of the blogging challenge, so far so good! LOL

One of my friends posted on her facebook page that her girls helped her do the cleaning, and she loved it.  She paid them $5 and push pops.  Hers are much older than mine, and several of the mom's commented on how they never thought to get their kids to do it, and that if they did they would have to redo it anyways.

Well I have a philospohy on this, and I wanted to share it, keep in mind my kids are only 4, 2 and 6 months old, but it worked on my friend's teenagers too so I shall share and would love to hear your thoughts too:

My boys love playing with the duster, swiffer vacuum, and spray bottles, and clean.  So I always tell them if they are good boys, they get to help me.  I know it won't be perfect, but really it is going to be dirty again in a little while, so does it matter if it is perfect for that 1/2 hour?

I don't redo it after them.  I remember when my Mom would do that to us, and it just made me feel like not going and doing it in the first place.  Why would I since it will be redone, and I will just get told I didn't do it right anyways.

If I see they are missing a spot, I make it fun and say "oh oh let's get this spot, or this one over here too! Great job!!!"

If they are not in the mood to help with my chores, that's fine, but if I am cleaning they always  have to clean up their toys, or go play in their rooms so they are out of my way.

I am not saying that this is going to make my boys always love doing chores, but it sure makes my life easier, and if in the future it makes them more receptive to helping me because I appreciate it then that's great.

I am not going to overlook 1 thing that I really feel contributes to their wanting to help, and that is that Daddy does a lot of things around here, fixing things, and also helping with chores, cooking, cleaning, and looking after the boys.  So, they think that's what is supposed to happen, and they want to be like Daddy!

I also think it helps us spend time together as I have things I have to do in the day, and they enjoy doing it with me.

Do your kids help?  What is your philosophy on this?

Vacation: Day at the Park

I pointed out yesterday how hubby and I debated on doing something exciting on vacation and hadn't really done much.  Looks like hubby won, but at least we are doing some things.

Today we took the boys to one of the City Parks.  Whenever I get fed up with my City, I realize that it is pretty good, if I just go check out one of the amenities!  Last Saturday, the boys and I went to our Farmer's Market and played in the downtown Park.

Today we went to a Park they just upgraded the play centres in.  They are also fixing up other facilities as well.  But they have always had a petting zoo, wading pool (which is now a splash pad), play centre, skiing in the winter, skate park, tennis courts, track, pony rides, mini putt etc. etc.  It is pretty amazing.  They even have a chapel and garden area.

So we thought, why not go there, and check it out, the boys are 4 & 2, they aren't expecting crazy exciting, and they will think this is awesome!

First time on a swing - not so sure about this

My punker boy - going down the slide

Loving the Pony ride, but unsure what is supposed to happen now.

WOW a real cow!

Petting the Donkey - yeah he can't read LOL

Clean up the Stash Crafting Challenge

So there is a new challenge out there for September, for crafters.

It is about cleaning out your stash, and not going out and buying some new supplies.  I was just about to go out and get some more yarn, so let's say it came at the right time!

So I am going to try doing the Blog every day challenge, and the clear out your stash challenge.  I think this will help me to blog every day, as I am going to post some of the things I make with my stash.

Here is a skirt I made for myself, I have never made anything like that before!:

This was taken of me and with my iphone!  Sorry for the chicken legs LOL

Exciting Ikea Trip

This week my hubby is on vacation, and I wanted to do something exciting.  He didn't. LOL

We negotiated and decided that today we would go to Ikea, and look for medicine cabinets which we need one, and have breakfast while we were there.

We took the boys had a nice breakfast and went to walk around.

My hubby started getting some messages from our security alarm system that our deck motion detector was going off.  When we heard about 2 break-ins on the cul-de-sac, hubby beefed up the system.  He put a siren on the outside so neighbours could hear it better, made the lights flash so they could see it better, and then put a detector on the outside deck, so if someone got up there we would know.  We already have a sensor on our gate, originally so if the boys leave the yard we would know, but we kept having teenage boys coming into our yard from the girl next door, so it's a good warning.

Well we got 2 messages from the deck motion, and thought it was a false, then the gate sensor went off.  We thought our neighbour was checking on the house, and then we got worried when the sensor for our living room window went off.  That's when we decided to head home.  I told hubby to call the police, he asked if I knew the number when ever sensor started going off at once!

I said "Just call 911!"  So he is trying to call 911, but apparently the most reliable network in Canada doesn't work all that well in Ikea, as he kept cutting out and ended up dropping the call!

We got outside, and it said that the front door sensor went off.  I told him, well they've taken what they want and left, think I am going to need a new laptop.  I had left my laptop on the dining room table.

So he gets a hold of the police and tells them we have someone breaking into our house, and that you need to send the police.  We give them our address, and she says the police are there!  That's when hubby realized that's probably who was setting off all the sensors.

We drove the fastest way home we could, kept the boys in the car and talked to the police.  Then hubby and the officer went inside to check it out while I stayed in the van with the boys.

The officer said, that the fire dept got their first, and they broke in through the window when they couldn't see anyone around.  They tried banging to see if we were home, but we weren't.  They even tried cutting the power to the alarm system, but it didn't work.  My hubby, and the alarm system we have, has ensured that is the case!

The good news is no one got it (not sure if it was a false alarm, or spooked someone), and the security system has been thoroughly tested.  We know that it works well, and that it catches attention.  We also know that it isn't easy to disconnect, as they had no way of doing it.  They even found the panel, but couldn't get into it!

We are very happy that all is safe, and sound.  I wasn't so worried about the stuff, I was worried about my cats most of all, but they seem no worse for the wear.

So, although I was stressed out for like 1 hour, all is fine!
